What should I wear on my Sled Dog Ride?
Winter conditions in West Yellowstone can be quite cold, often below freezing. You should dress in layers so you may add/subtract clothing depending on conditions on the day of your ride. Below is a list of clothing items you should bring:
  • Long underwear made of synthetic material (NO COTTON) that wicks moisture/sweat away from the skin
  • Warm winter pants such as ski pants
  • Heavy wool or synthetic socks
  • Warm winter jacket with a hood
  • Fleece or wool sweater
  • Warm winter boots
  • Warm winter hat - tobaggan cap or balaclava
  • A pair of thin gloves (for finger mobility)
  • A pair of warm mittens, big enough to fit over gloves

Will I get to feed the dogs on my Kennel Tour?
Since our huskies are racing sled dogs, we have them on a very specialized diet. Straying from that diet can affect their performance, so we typically do not allow visitors to feed them typical "doggie treats." However, we do have specialized treats we give our dogs after a run, so you will have the opportunity to feed them following a sled dog ride. If you come for a kennel tour only, you may or may not be able to feed the dogs depending on what time of day you visit.

Will food be provided on any of the tours?
We do not provide meals on sled dog rides or during kennel tours since the ride and tour are each only 1 hour long. So, be sure to eat a good hot meal before your visit, it will help to keep you warm.

How safe is dog sledding for an amateur like me?
Our sled dogs and mushers are highly trained, you can be rest assured that you are in good hands/paws during your sled dog ride. Of course, as with any outdoor winter adventure, there are always risks invloved, such as hypothermia if you are not properly dressed. Although Klondike Dreams can not completely guarantee 100% safety, injuries during a sled dog ride are extremely rare.

Can I drive my own sled?
Absolutely! You can ride at the helm of the team with up to two passengers in the basket. Everyone who is interested gets the opportunity to drive. Have no fear, our sled dogs are highly trained and know the trails extremely well, and you will be given thorough instructions on handling the team including three basic verbal commands and safe braking procedures.

Are there any age restrictions?
We take all visitors, young and old. We do not recommend children under 3 for a sled dog ride, though they are allowed at your request. And, although children under 3 are welcome on a Kennel Tour, they may be overwhelmed by the level of excitement and noise from the dogs.

Are the dogs friendly toward children?
Our sled dogs absolutely love children, and kids love to meet and pet our dogs. When you take the kennel tour for the first time, the excitement and noise can be overwhelming, but be assured that the dogs are just excited at meeting new visitors. We'll go over all the safety rules with you and your kids for approaching and petting our dogs before the tour.
